NON-DOT DRUG TESTING
NON-DOT DRUG TESTING SERVICES
At Palmetto Compliance & Testing, our Non-DOT Drug Testing services provide flexible and professional drug screening solutions for employers, organizations, and individuals who are not regulated by the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT).
A non-DOT drug test refers to a drug screening program that is not governed by federal DOT regulations. SCOPE OF APPLICATION
While DOT drug testing is required specifically for safety-sensitive transportation employees regulated by the Department of Transportation, non-DOT drug testing may be used for virtually any other employment position or testing situation.
Employers commonly utilize non-DOT testing programs for workplace safety initiatives, pre-employment screening, random employee testing, post-accident investigations, reasonable suspicion situations, return-to-work programs, and ongoing compliance efforts.
Non-DOT testing may also be required by certain industries, company policies, contractual obligations, state regulations, or insurance providers.
SUBSTANCES TESTED FOR
Unlike DOT testing, which follows a federally mandated 5-panel drug screen, non-DOT drug testing panels can vary depending on the employer’s needs and selected testing program. Testing panels may screen for substances such as:
Marijuana (THC)
Cocaine
Opiates
Amphetamines & Methamphetamines
PCP
Benzodiazepines
Barbiturates
Methadone
Synthetic Drugs
Additional prescription or illicit substances depending on the selected panel
TESTING PROCEDURES
Non-DOT drug testing may be performed using several testing methods, including urine, oral fluid (saliva), hair follicle, or other approved specimen collection types, While non-DOT testing is not subject to strict federal DOT collection regulations, many employers choose to follow professional collection standards and best practices to help ensure accurate, reliable, and legally defensible results.
CONSEQUENCES OF POSITIVE RESULTS
The consequences of a positive non-DOT drug test are determined by the employer’s policies, workplaces guidelines, or any applicable state and local regulations. Depending on the situation, positive test results may impact employment eligibility, disciplinary action, workplace safety status, or return-to-work requirements.
PRIVACY & CONFIDENTIALITY
Both DOT and non-DOT drug testing programs must comply with applicable privacy and confidentiality laws. While non-DOT testing may not require the same federal chain-of-custody and record-keeping standards as DOT testing, professional specimen handling, secure documentation procedures, and confidential reporting practices are still followed to protect client and employee information throughout the testing process.
All specimens collected through our testing services are securely handled and processed by certified laboratories using professional testing procedures and quality control standards.
